Rueda de Casino


Rueda de Casino is a Cuban form of Salsa dancing. Couples form a circle and do defined Salsa dance moves under the direction of a leader. Some of these moves involve the swapping of partners around the circle. Here below are descriptions of common Rueda de Casino moves.

Move Man's Step Woman's Step

Guapea
Start facing centre. Left foot back, right foot in place, left foot next to right foot (123). Turn left 90º to face woman. Right palm flat against left palm of woman. Lean into her. Right foot forward, left foot in place, right foot next to left foot (567). Turn right 90º to face centre. Start facing centre. Right foot back, left foot in place, right foot next to left foot (123). Turn right 90º to face man. Left palm flat against right palm of man. Lean into him. Left foot foward, right foot in place, left foot next to right foot (567). Turn left 90º to face centre.

Dile Que No
(Tell Her No)
Start facing anticlockwise. Left foot forward, right foot in place, turn left 90º to face centre, left foot next to right foot (123). Right foot out right, left foot in place, right foot next to left foot (567). Start facing clockwise. Right foot back, left foot forward, right foot forward (123). Left foot forward, turn left 180º, right foot back, left foot next to right foot (567). Turn left 90º to face centre.

Da Me Una
(Give Me One)
There are two variations.
From Dile Que No: Start facing anticlockwise. Left foot forward, right foot in place, turn left 90º to face centre, left foot next to right foot (123). Turn right 90º while stepping right, left, right (567). Over-turn woman, letting go, so that she ends facing the next man. You have now changed partners. Finish with a Dile Que No.
From Guapea: Start facing centre. Left foot back, right foot in place, left foot next to right foot (123). Turn left 90º to face woman. Right palm flat against left palm of woman. Push off palm of woman to turn right 180º while stepping right, left, right (567). You have now changed partners. Finish with a Dile Que No.
There are two variations.
From Dile Que No: Start facing clockwise. Right foot back, left foot forward, right foot forward (123). Left foot forward, turn left 180º, right foot back, turn left 90º, left foot next to right foot (567). Turn left 90º to face next man.
From Guapea: Start facing centre. Right foot back, left foot in place, right foot next to left foot (123). Turn right 90º to face man. Left palm flat against right palm of man. Push off palm of man to turn left 180º while stepping left, right, left (567). You have now changed partners. Finish with a Dile Que No.

Da Me Dos
(Give Me Two)
Like Da Me Una, but skip one woman. It is important for the man to move with purpose in a straight line to his target woman, so as to avoid getting in the way of other men. Exactly like Da Me Una.

Dos Con Dos
(Two With Two)
Like Da Me Dos, but when moving to next woman, clap hands twice (78). Exactly like Da Me Dos

Sombrero
(Hat)
Start facing clockwise. Left foot back, right foot in place, left foot next to right foot (123). Change hands to right-to-right over left-to-left. Turn right 90º. Step in place right, left, right (567), turning woman clockwise from your left side to your right side. Turn right 90º, putting your right arm over head of woman, and your left arm over your head. Let hands go and end with a Dile Que No. Start facing anticlockwise. Right foot back, left foot forward, right foot forward (123). Pivot turn to the right (567). End with a Dile Que No.

Enchufla
(Plug In)
Start facing clockwise. Left foot back, right foot forward, turn right 180º, left foot next to right foot (123). You have now changed places with your woman. Right foot back, left foot forward, right foot forward (567), pushing your right arm over the right arm of your woman so as not to clothes-line her. You have now changed partners. End with a Dile Que No Start facing anticlockwise. Right foot back, left foot forward, turn left 180º, right foot next to left foot (123). You have now changed places with your man. Left foot back, right foot forward, left foot forward (567). You have not changed partners. End with a Dile Que No.

Castigarla
(Punish Her)
Like Enchufla, but when moving on to the next woman, hit the woman (gently please!) on her hand. Exactly like Enchufla.

Prima
(Cousin)
Start facing clockwise. Left foot back, leading your woman into an open break. Right foot in place, bringing her back to you and taking hold of her again. Left foot forward, turning your body 45º to the right, bringing her around you with your right arm. Cross behind with your right foot to face anticlockwise. Left foot forward, pulling the woman past you with your right arm and moving under her right arm. Right foot forward. You have now changed partners. Finish with a Dile Que No. Start facing anticlockwise. Right foot back, left foot in place. Keep stepping forward for the rest of the move, allowing your man to lead you around him so that you end facing end facing clockwise. After the man has moved past you and under your right arm, you have changed partners. Finish with a Dile Que No.

Exhibela
(Show Her Off)
Start facing anticlockwise. Left foot to the left, opening your woman into your right arm. Right foot in place, bringing her back. Right foot to the right, leading her into a spot turn into the circle. Left foot in place, right foot next to left foot, under-turning her so that she returns to your arms. Start facing clockwise. Open up, stepping back on the right foot and turning your body to your right. Left foot in place, right foot forward, stepping into the circle. Spot turn into the circle, under-turning it so that you finish facing clockwise.
